Zoology is one of the earliest branches of Scientific inquiry dating back to pre-historic period when humans started using animals and animal products as food and for other needs.
Systemic inquiry of Animal life was started by Greeks notably Aristotle and Hippocratus who gave inscriptive details of Animals.Ancient Romans like Pliny complied, Historia naturalis a compilation of life forms. The era of Modern Zoology began with development of system of nomenclature by Carolus Linnaeus, comprehensive natural history by Georges-Louis Leclerc de Buffon, Comparative anatomy by Georges Cuvier, Cell theory by Schleidon and Schwann, Concepts of Genetics by Mendel, Evolution by Darwin. Modern technological developments like Electron microscopy, Mass spectroscopy, Gene and Protein Seqeuncing has revolutionerized the character of Zoological enquiry in Scope and Depth.
